7 September 2007: Adelaide contractors rupture water main; shops inundated

Posted by waterweek on 18 September 2007

A water main burst near the corner of North Tce and Frome Rd, Adelaide City, reported The Advertiser (7/9/2007, p. 7) As water sprayed 30m into the air a tanker rolled in to collect what otherwise would have been a waste of thousands of litres. The main burst about 8.30am when it was accidentally ruptured by contractors upgrading stormwater pipes for Adelaide City Council. A repair crew was on the scene within 20 minutes, but it took another 10 minutes for them to turn off the flow of water. Even though sand bags were placed at the doors of nearby businesses, several were inundated with water.
